Hagakure. The Code Of The Samurai

Hagakure is the samurai code of conduct. In this work, the old monk Yamamoto Tsunetomo (1659-1719) has condensed the anecdotes and memories of his past as a warrior, thus hoping to educate the new generations and free them from the climate of moral decay that was spreading in Japan. His reflections revolve above all around the service and absolute fidelity owed by the vassal to his lord, the sense of honor, the contempt for death, the meaning of revenge, the value of sincerity. Although three centuries have passed since its composition, the Hagakure continues to fascinate East and West, as evidenced in recent times by the original reinterpretation of the work in the film Ghost Dog by Jim Jarmusch.
