Peter is a small town boy, lonely and a little cranky. Her mother works in a suburban consult, and taking care of others is her talent. The father is a chemist, a shady and charming man, who returns home every night from angerful work. The parents of Peter are united by a common passion, foundation: in the mountains they met, in love, they even married at the foot of the Three Peaks of Lavaredo. The mountain has always united them, even in the tragedy, and the linear horizon of Milan fills them now with regret and nostalgia. When they discover the village of Grana, at the foot of Monte Rosa, they feel they have found the right place: Peter will spend all summers in that place "closed upstream from iron gray crests and downstream from a cliff that hinders its access" but crossed by a stream that enchants it from the first moment. And there, waiting for him, is Bruno, blonde hair hemp and neck burned by the sun: has its own age but instead of being on holiday deals with the pasture of cows. Expanses of exploration and discoveries begin, among abandoned houses, the mill and the roughest paths. It was also the years when Peter began walking with his father, "the most similar thing to an education he received from him.". Because the mountain is a knowledge, a true way of breathing, and it will be his most true legacy: "There it is, my legacy: a rock wall, snow, a pile of square stones, a pine.". A legacy that after so many years will bring him back to Bruno.
