Passionate connoisseur of Africa, Emanuela Nava has been able to bring back, in each of these short stories, the sense of the magic that still reigns in that land, threatening and welcoming at the same time; presented the naive and joyful character of its inhabitants, still deeply tied to the rhythms of nature and its phenomena. Thus we find the man who asks the spirits for help to have five daughters to give in marriage to valid young men, we discover the enchanted sound of the valiha and the balafon, ancient musical instruments that recall the song of birds; we witness the struggle of a young man who loses a race because he is distracted by the flight of a parrot. The sixteen tales present characters with different yet identical stories, in their rhythmic freedom and in the coexistence with those spirits who often return and dance to the sound of ancient instruments, intertwining their presence with that of human beings.
