"The name Black Jack - writes Tezuka - indicates a metal glass (once wooden), but it also has the meaning of a pirate flag, marked with a skeleton. I chose this comparison with pirates because the protagonist of the work grabs money and brutally cuts to pieces with a scalpel. It has no connection with the card game of the same name. "
