 Spin Master was founded in 1994 by two childhood friends, Ronnen Harary and Anton Rabie, shortly after graduating from the University of Western Ontario. Ben Varadi, a classmate of Anton from the Richard Ivey School of Business at the University of Western Ontario, joined the Company later in 1994.

The first product of the nascent entrepreneurs was the Earth Buddy, a sawdust head covered in nylon stockings and covered with grass seeds that grew to emulate hair, funded with their $ 10,000 investment. With Anton selling the item on the street and to specialty retailers, the business quickly expanded into a small facility in downtown Toronto. This early success served as a springboard for Spin Master's entry into the toy industry.
